Family Campout 2008

We headed up to Jackson Meadows last weekend for another fun-filled camping adventure. Edmond fell asleep on the way, and he was holding his little dinosaur.

This is a lake near Jackson meadows. The water was FREEZING! It was so cold that it made your feet ache just to wade in it. We had two extremes, the water was freezing and the weather was boiling hot. So, I decided that the only way to find relief would be for me to get in the water and then get out. I went swimming for a little bit but nobody else would get in past their thighs. Not even B. He said he was surprised that I had the guts to get in. It felt good just to cool off, but the water was so cold I couldn't even take a breath when it was around my chest.

Here's out happy little camper in his bed! Yes, he slept in his car seat in our tent with piles of blankets on him. I kept having nightmares that he was cold or that he would grow up with scoliosis for sleeping all curled up like that.

As we packed up our tent to leave, we found this bug. He was so big! I wear size 8 1/2 shoes, and this is how big he was compared to my foot. Yuck. Does anyone know what it is? I've been looking online and haven't been able to find what kind of bug it is.

Sitting Up!

Edmond is 5 1/2 months old and sitting up! He does a few face-plants every now and then...but he's getting the hang of it!

Hot August Nights

We drove out to Reno to see Hot August Nights. It was pretty cool to see all the cars people brought in...and it was interesting to see all the people that brought them. It was pretty hot, but we all enjoyed it. After a few hours I took Edmond into one of the casinos to get out of the heat and to look at all the pretty lights. He loved it in there. My favorite was this cute little red car.



All the cars were amazing. I couldn't believe how immaculate they all were.


I like Hot August Nights. I'd definately go again.

Monterey

We just got back last night from a trip to Monterey. We met up with our friends Nick and Jessica and their baby Grant. We arrived on Thursday afternoon after a 3 hour car ride. Once we got to the Hyatt, Edmond parked the car.

Edmond and Grant became best friends right away. They enjoyed grabbing at each other's faces throughout the entire trip. Grant is about 6 weeks older than Edmond.

The view from our balcony was very peaceful, right next to the golf course.

The first night for dinner we had seafood. B and I ordered a dish that had all sorts of different sea food in it like mussels and clams and some crab legs. The crab legs didn't really do it for me. There was something about cracking the leg open and eating the inards that totally turned me off.

The next morning we took Edmond out for a little stroll around the hotel grounds.

Then we were off to breakfast at Rosy's. We love that restaurant. We went there so much that on our last day they gave us a free cake for being such good customers.

Then we went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It was totally cool and we enjoyed it. It's too bad they don't have that great white shark anymore, that would have been fun to see. The boys loved riding in our Phil and Ted stroller. People kept asking if they were twins.

Here we are on Cannery Row. We loved all the free samples of chocolate and clam chowder.

The next morning we took another walk around the hotel, then drove out to Carmel for breakfast.

We tried to make Edmond's mohawk look as cool as Grant's but he needs a little bit more length.

After shopping in Carmel, we went on the 17 mile drive. It was absolutely beautiful and we loved it.

When we got home we took a little dip in the pool and then went to sushi for dinner.

The next morning we went to breakfast at Rosy's and then went for a walk along the beach then headed home. It was a fun, fun trip.

Poopy Hike

Last weekend we went on a hike with Jenn and Jay and their kids. It was our first hike with Edmond. Supposedly the hike was only a mile long, so we thought it would be a fun and easy experience. We put Edmond in his little snugli and we were off. After an hour of hiking in the boiling hot sun with a 16 pound baby, we still had not reached the end of the hike. I sat down to take a rest and let Edmond out of his little pouch, and saw that somewhere along the way he had pooped and it had drizzled down his leg and was all over me and him. We had left our diapers in the car since it was supposed to be a short little hike, so I found myself in the middle of nowhere with a baby covered in poop. So, I turned around and started the long hike back to the car. It was the longest walk of my life. My hands were covered in poop, my legs, my clothes, everything. B kept offering to take him, but I told him I didn't see any reason why we should both be covered in poop. Poor Edmond. We were both so hot and poopy. When we finally got back to the car we jumped in the river. Even Edmond got to go swimming. At first he liked it and he looked so cute and happy that I ran to get the camera. By the time I pulled it out to take his picture he decided that he had had enough and he started to cry.

So....I'm not so sure I like hiking with a baby.
