Enough already

It has been wretchedly hot here still.

Every day when I walk to the elementary school to get Edmond, I curse California and this drought and the heat and the sweat dripping down my back.

The kids swam in our pool this afternoon and normally that would make me feel happy that we can still use the pool in October, but this heat is so dry and incessant and the fields have been yellow and brittle for months and months and this summer is never going to end.

I ache for Utah and the crisp autumn air and mountains with changing leaves and snow capped peaks.

Every morning I run my hand across my leather boots and patterned scarves with longing, only to have to settle for my shabby summer clothes that are covered in knit balls and Old Navy flip flops that shrunk from the heat of the sun when I left them on the patio and now my heels hang off the back.

I told my husband today that I was done with this place (California, that is) and he said I can't be because we live here. What the heck is that supposed to mean? I didn't want him to respond with logic. If I'm done, I'm done, and we should just leave. So there.

Farewell

B's parents are leaving in a few weeks to serve a mission for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Romania. They'll be gone for 18 months. They spoke in church before they leave. Afterwards all of B's family got together to eat and hang out and enjoy some time with Lee and Annette. I stopped Denise in the parking lot and made her let me take a picture of her and her new Tesla. It is so hot.

Almost all of the Cooley Grandsons.

Blue eyes all around.

Tanner and Chase were playing catch with baby Hudson.

I tried so hard to get a picture of Lee and Annette together. They were so bombarded with friends and family that it never happened.

I did manage to get a shot of our little family.

The cousins spent the afternoon playing on the swings out back.

Annette and Gerda

Lee's friend from high school came. They hadn't seen each other for 50 years.

Annette and her sister Debbie and niece Heather.

Lee and his oldest grandson.

This is Scarlett and her second cousin Camille. These two girls are long lost best friends. They stayed in the office for over an hour working on this project together. They are only a few months apart. Heather and I decided we need to get together to let them play more often.

Our friends Jon and Emily came to town and blessed their baby. He asked B to help him.

I love shopping with my girls, even if it is just to Lowes. I'm sure it will be even more fun when they're older.

No one signed up to be Art Docent in Edmond's class. This made me sad because Edmond loves art, so I decided to be the docent. I don't know anything about teaching art, but luckily I have Pinterest to help me so we have been doing some cute stuff. Edmond loves it when I come every week to teach his class. He looks forward to it all week and at the end of the day when I ask him what the best part of his day was, he says, "When you came to my class, Mom."

Morning walks to school are always an adventure with my little crew.

Charlie's preschool is in full swing. We have a good group and the kids have lots of fun together.

When Daddy plays legos with the kids, he builds cool stuff like Unimogs.

Girl's night. Yay!

Charlie and his best friend, Anna-Kate. Their parents are thinking of doing an arranged marriage.

This girl has lost several pairs of shoes at the park. I have finally just stopped having her wear them when we go there.

Charlie in Soccer

Charlie is in soccer for the first time this year and he is loving it. When I drop him off he runs off with his water bottle tucked in his arm and meets his teammates. He really likes the dark haired boy. They like to be silly together

Edmond is also in soccer, so we are at the soccer field about three nights a week, and then we have two games every Saturday. Usually Edmod and Charlie's games are at the same time, so B and I have to split up and go to the games. Lots of times Grammy and Papa come. I usually have the two little girls with me. Scarlett runs off with whatever little girl friend she makes at the park, and Juliette just hangs with me and tries to eat the grass.

This is Juliette's little friend at church. They were born about a week apart from each other. He is so handsome.
